Cartons and trays stacking mechanism on pallets - has roller conveyor with actuated stops and laterally slidable fingers on separate feed paths

The mechanism is intended for arranging cartons or trays (29,29a) in a layer on a table (1) to form a pattern suitable for subsequent stacking in a bonded pattern on standard pallets of different sizes. It comprises two belts (5,6) supplying the cartons to respective areas (3,4) of a driven roller conveyor (2) with independently operable stops (16a-d; 16e-f) and fixed (32b) and movable end stops (32a). The stops consist of rails (16) parallel to, and swivelable about the axles (11) of certain conveyor rollers (12). A slide bar (24) below the rollers is transversely movable by endless chains (21a,b) and carries fingers (27) extending upwards through the spaces (25,26) between adjacent rollers to move a layer of cartons formed on the conveyor on to the table.
