The internal combustion engine has a double ended piston with two piston crowns. The piston reciprocates in a chamber to form two separate working cylinders which operate alternately in compression and expansion. A rigid lever is fitted to the centre of the piston and protrudes through a slit. An S-shaped connecting rod works with the crank to convert the reciprocating motion into rotary motion of the crankshaft.
