<p>PURPOSE:To improve the contrast, by relating the horizontal orientating treatment of the phase transfer type guest.host color liquid crystal device to optical rotation directions of liquid crystal compositions, rotation angles of liquid crystal molecules, and the direction of the orientation control. CONSTITUTION:The orientation control is so performed that liquid cyrstal molecules have an approximately equal inclination for respective surfaces of two electrode substrates and are arranged in constant directions, and further, two electrode substrates are arranged in parallel so that respective directions make constant angle theta; and when liquid crystal composition where multicoloring matters and rotation inducing matters are added to the nematic liquid crystal of a positive dielectric anisotropy are held between both electrode substrates, the relations among rotating directions of liquid crystal compositions, rotation angles phi of liquid crystal molecules between both electrode substrates, and angle theta of the direction of the orientation control is specified as shown in the table. If the ratio of thickness (d) of the liquid crystal layer to pitch (p) of the liquid crystal is selected to satisfy phi/2pi<=d/p<=phi2pi+ 1/4, dynamic driving becomes possible.</p> |
