Spring supports for ceramic hot plate - absorb shock and reduce risk of breakage in gas cooker

The gas cooker has a burner covered with a circular plate (1) of heat resistant glass so that the saucepan being heated is not in direct contact with the gas flame. The plate has a rebated edge (2) which fits under the upper flange (4) of a channel section ring (3). The plate is supported on spring steel clips (6). These clips are made by pressing or stamping from spring steel strip. They hold the ceramic plate firmly inside the channel section ring. At the same time they absorb any shock due to the impact of the cooking vessel on the plate. Since the ceramic glass from which these plates are made is a relatively brittle material the risk of breakage is thus reduced.
