The drill comprises a drilling table (1), pillar (2,3), spindle drive (17), and a bush (10) which is axially slidable by rack (11) and pinion (12) and encloses the drill spindle carrying the chuck (21). The table carries two pillars (2,3) along which a yoke (4) is vertically adjustable (6-8). The bush (10) with the spindle drive is slidably carried at the centre of the yoke and vertically movable in this by the pinion (12). The table has a central opening (20) through which the drill (22) can pass. The table may have screw fixing bores (23) and grooves (24) for fitting work clamps. The drill may, alternatively, be provided with a mechanism to fit a portable power drill unit.
