Gyroscopic platform for inertial guidance system - has gimbal mounted platform with motor-driven gyroscopic stabilisation system

The gyroscopic stabilised platform is used for inertial navigational equipment in aircraft and missiles. The platform is mounted on gimbals on a vertical axis and is driven by an electric motor supported on the frame of the craft. A synchro is used to measure the relative angular position between platform and craft. For measurement of angular velocity and for platform stabilisation, a gyroscope is used. Mounted on the platform may be a range finder and weapons system. Additionally the platform can contain an accelerometer. Sensor signals are transmitted to an onboard computer to output position, speed, and acceleration parameters.
