The conversion of methanol into gasoline-boiling hydrocarbons is carried out over a catalyst comprising a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite and an oxidation component selected from Pt, Pd, Ir, Os, Rh, Ru and Re in an amount of less than 100 ppm of the total catalyst. Such an amount is sufficient to promote oxidation of CO to CO2 during catalyst regeneration but is insufficient substantially to affect hydrocarbon product quality or yield.
