Aqs. emulsion of a vinyl chloride polymer is produced by polymerising or copolymerising vinyl chloride in the presence of an emulsifier and a surface active acid comprising a fluorocarbon deriv. contg. an organic hydrophilic radical and a perfluorocarbon radical with >=3 C atoms, the emulsifier being used in an amt. of 90 to 50% of the amt. which would be necessary in the absence of the fluorocarbon deriv., the latter being used in an amt. at least sufficient to maintain a stable emulsion. The replacement of part of the emulsifier by fluorocarbon cpd. improves emulsion stability and reduces coagulation of polymer and foaming.
|
