The method consists in first applying the central part of the metal plugging sheet (10) against the leak (12) in the wall (2) by means of an inflatable sleeve (8) mounted on a device which can move inside the gas pipeline to be repaired (2). The edges of the sheet are next applied thereto by a second sleeve (5). Uniform plugging is thus obtained without air pockets.
