A decorative strip for motor vehicles is described which has a basic body which is made of plastic; a soft and flexible plastic section which is integrally moulded onto the said basic body and is in contact with one surface of the motor vehicle body; a sheet of steel foil which is made of stainless steel and is bent round the basic body or is let into it; and a holding element, which is made of plastic with a high degree of heat resistance, for fastening the basic body to the surface of the motor vehicle body, at least one recess section being moulded into the basic body or the holding element, at least one projecting section engaging in the said recess section to connect the basic body to the holding element, which projecting section is formed on the part which is not provided with the recess section. This decorative strip has the special advantage that the connection between the decorative strip and the vehicle body is reliably maintained even when they are subjected to high heat levels.
