<p>An evaporating vessel, esp. for the sepn. of volatile solvents from mixts. contg. paint, dye etc., has a double-open ended hollow bylinder mounted above the liq. surface and forming an annular space between itself and the vessel wall; this space is closed by a top plate. The gas-liq. mixt. enters this region below the top plate. This annular space contains a helical plate descending from the top plate, causing the mixt. to descend along a helical path down into the vessel. The inlet pipe pref. enters the annular space tangentially. In a variant, there may be a similar helix in the form of a metal strip on the inner face of the hollow cylinder. Used partic. for sepg. very large quantities of vapour from mixts. entering at rates of up to 1000 litres per minute. In such large quantities splashing of the liq. and consequent entrainment of liq. with the discharged vapours is very difficult to prevent. This arrangement provides a more effective, space-saving liq. droplet separator to prevent liq. being entrained by the gases leaving the vessel.</p> |
