The mixing tap for hot and cold water has a hollow spherical body (2) attached to an operating lever (5) acting as a valve member. The hollow sphere is supported by a concave surface in a block (1) containing two inlet channels (9,10) for the hot and cold water and a central outlet channel (11) forming the delivery tube. The sphere has an inlet slot (12) and outlet slot (22) communicating with the interior, which forms a mixing chamber, controlled by movement of the lever. The sphere is held down against its seating, both being made of a wear resistant ceramic oxide, by a cap (15) with a concave contact surface located by a recess (14) in a tensioning bush (4) secured inside the top of the valve body, with a spring (17) above the cap. The lever is guided by a slot (8) down the top of the housing.
