The tin opener has a lever with knife fitted against the can by means of a supporting member. The lever (5) and the member (6) are coupled together by a pivot pin (7) so as to pivot in a plane through their lengthwise axes (9) and that of the knife (4). On the side (15) of the member to which the knife points in the pivoting direction is a protrusion (12,13) engaging below the lower edge (22) of the tin. The pivot pin can be on a slide (17), adjustable steplessly in stages on the member towards and away from the protrusion, and lockable.
