The strip-shaped plates (4-7) made of ultrasonic oscillator material are placed with their flat sides on top of one another in layers. The gaps between the plates are filled with a material whose acoustic impedance differs greatly from that of the material of the plates. A linear ultrasonic transducer (30,31) is obtained each time a cut is made through the plate stack at right angles to its plane and parallel to the width direction of the stack (2). Spacers in the original stack determine the distance between the transducer elements (34-37) which are connected mechanically, but separated acoustically. This ultrasonic transducer can be used directly as the basic body of an ultrasonic head.
