The screwless connector for the bared ends (3) of conductor wires has a base containing the connecting elements and a cover (1) with openings (21) for the wires. Between them are chambers (4) each with a projecting base (18) over which is bent a resilient locking piece (17). Above this is supported a hairpin shaped spring (8) which can be controlled to retain the bared end after insertion. In one position, one arm of the spring is retracted by locking one end behind a projecting lug (15) with a sloping surface (16) at the outside. The spring is then released by operating a controller (13) connected to a spindle (10) carruin carrying the spring to release the arm to hold the bared end against a conductor strip (5) inside the chamber. Alternative methods of releasing the spring are possible.
