A poker machine is provided, in place of the conventional chance wheels, with endless flexible strips (1) which carry the symbols. Each strip (1) is supported by a guide (4) in the region of a viewing zone (2) and is driven by a motor equipped with a driving wheel (3). The strips (1) have a low mass inertia and can thereby be driven by small motors. Furthermore, the path of movement, along which each strip travels, can be adapted to a number of shapes. <IMAGE>
