Highly active and voluminous silver oxide catalyst prodn. - by deposition silver oxide on magnesium oxide, useful in detoxification powder for chemical warfare agent

In the prodn, of a highly active and highly voluminous Ag oxide (I) catalyst by depositing (I) on MgO with a surface area of 150-170 sq.m/g by the BET method and 55,000-70,000 sq.cm/g by the Blaine method, (I) is deposited on MgO with a min. surface area of 62.5 sq.m/g. The catalyst is used as additive for detoxification powder (in conjunction with Ca hypochlorite or bleaching powder) for chemical warfare agents. An ca. 5.33 angstrom colloidal (I) layer is obtd. on the surface of the MgO.
