This hydraulic separator is formed by a tank (3) having a rectangular transverse cross-section of constant width and whose vertical cross-section is an isosceles trapezoid, the long base (4) corresponding to the top part of this tank, which possesses, at the top end of its inclined side and below its upper edge, an overfall (5); a chamber (8) which is extended in its upper part, situated below the level of the upper edge of the said tank, and an evacuation chute for the light elements. The separator likewise comprises a system (11) for evacuating the heavy elements, a device (7) for injecting a liquid and means for introducing the products to be separated.
