The boiler has a number of tubes, extending through a water magazine between the after-burning chamber and out-going smoke gas duct, to transmit heat to the water developed by combustion in the solid fuel hearth and after-burning chamber. The tubes are divided into two groups so that those in one group conduct gases from the after-burning chamber to the smoke gas ducts. This is achieved directly or by activation of a primary valve fitted between the groups. - Parallel with the tubes in the first group, is a third tube between the after-burner chamber and the out-going smoke gas duct. A second valve wholly or partially blocks the passage of smoke gases through the first and second tube groups. This means that the smoke gases are either conducted through the third tube, or through the first and second tube groups. |
