PURPOSE:To objectively and quantatively determine and evaluate a rust-proofing degree, by a method wherein a gloss retention rate of a rustproof-treated surface is measured from correlation between the rust-proofing degree and the gloss retention rate. CONSTITUTION:In an unprotected steel material, the steel plate whose whole surface is rusted, the steel plate which is simply derusted by means of a wire brush, the steel plate which is enoughly derusted by means of a power brush and a disc sander, the steel plate applied with wash primer as shop primer, and an epoxyzinc primer coated steel plate are prepared. A plate, which is rusted under a condition to be exposed to the outdoors, and a plate, which is processed in a manner described in the unprotected steel material, are used as a material to be tested, and a gloss retention rate, which is obtained from a 60 deg. mirror surface reflection of each processed surface, is measured. As a result, it is found that, with the improvement of the rust-proofing degree, the gloss retention rate increases. The optical measurement of the rust-proofing degree in a manner described above reduces influence produced due to an individual difference and also permits the simple determination and evaluation. |
