PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spark gap setting method for a spark plug which makes a processing speed suitably quick. SOLUTION: The spark plug, having a center electrode and a ground electrode which are facing each other, is held and the position of the top end of the center electrode is measured, and a movement distance of the ground electrode pushing means toward the center electrode, which is necessary for making the measured distance between the top end of the center electrode and the ground electrode get into a target value of the spark gap, is calculated. Afterwards, an intended spark distance between the opposing surfaces of both electrodes is set by pushing the outer surface of the ground electrode by making a pushing head as a ground electrode pushing means move as far as the measured movement distance toward the center electrode side, and making the ground electrode get near to the center electrode so as to reduce the distance between both electrodes.
