<p>Case 3367 IMPROVED PLASTIC PULL-UP RIVET An improved plastic blind rivet including a tubular female member having a flange-like head on the outer periphery at the upper open end and a male member having a shank insert-molded within and forming the hollow space of said female member so as to create complimentary intimate shapes between said members. The female is provided with a plurality of elongated relieved areas in the tubular wall disposed in a longitudinal axial direction. The male member extends through the head and further includes at the lower end of the shank a portion of increased size in contact with the lower end of the female member opposite the head. The shank further includes a plurality of longitudinally disposed relatively flat surfaces carrying locking means, said flat surfaces of the shank being juxtaposed to similar relatively flat surfaces carrying complimentary locking means on the interior of the female member so that extraction of the male member out of the female member results in reduction in the length of the female member with consequent expansion of the tubular wall of the member into a petal shape. Work pieces subjected to riveting are thereby fastened between the petals formed by expansion of the female member and the head of said female member while the locking means prevent the male member from being retrogressively moved back to its initial position.</p> |
