PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent damage of a vane pump when the volume of hydraulic oil is so much expanded by abnormally high temperature of the vane pump that the hydraulic oil cannot be absorbed in a reservoir. SOLUTION: The vane pump P has side plates 30 and 32, a cam ring 31, and a rotor 35 stored in a casing 19. The reservoir 55 consists of a piston 57 slidably engaged inside a through hole 27a bored through a rotor shaft 27 for supporting the rotor 35 in the axial direction, and a coil spring 59 for energizing the piston 57. When the temperature of the vane pump P is abnormally high and the volume of the hydraulic oil is largely expanded, the piston 57 engaged with the through hole 27a of the rotor shaft 27 is moved over a relief groove 27b and the hydraulic oil inside the reservoir 55 is discharged out of the through hole 27, so that the damage of the vane pump is prevented.
