A holder for signs must be able to withstand the influences to which an outdoor sign is exposed. Furthermore, it should be light and have an inviting appearance to the viewer. In order to achieve this, the holder is configured as a frame 2, which forms the side edges and top side of the holder, and to which frame there are two side surfaces 1 of transparent polycarbonate that have been welded by ultrasound. In the cavity formed in this way in a box, it is possible to insert an intermediate plate 3 and folding plates from below in order to stabilise and strengthen the holder on its bottom bracket 6. The sign is thus fully protected against outer influences. Furthermore, a closely fitting bead 4 is applied, which covers the side edges of the holder and seals them. When the holder is to be mounted on a base 5, it can be secured by means of a bottom bracket 6, which is screwed to the bottom edge of the holder. This bottom bracket can have a foot 8 which can be secured to the base 5. <IMAGE>
