PURPOSE:To increase energy-absorbing capacity due to falling attitude by a method wherein the center position of the section of the captioned shock-absorber is eccentrified and the relation among the vertical and the horizontal eccentric quantities (a) and (b) from the corner of a protected body and the overhanging quantity (r0) of the absorber is specified. CONSTITUTION:The protected body, e.g. a used nuclear fuel carrying cask (hereinafter, calling cask) with a cylindrical external diameter has toroidal ring type shock absorbers 1, 2 at both its ends so that the shock cannot be transmitted when the cask 3 falls. In other words, the sectional centers of the shock absorbers 1, 2 are eccentrified outward from the corners of the said protected body 3. Regarding the eccentric range, the vertical and the horizontal eccentric quantity from the corners of the protected body are given respectively by (a), (b) and the overhanging quantity from the external surface of the protected body is given by (r0) and the relation between them is specified as shown. Thus, within the limit of the shock absorber, the energy absorbing capacity due to falling attitude in the corner direction of the protected body can be increased without enlarging the plate thickness of the absorber. |
