The invention relates to a universal joint which can be used, for example, between the torque-transferring shafts of a force-transfer system or a steering system of a car or the like. The outer surface of each arm or trunnion of the crosspiece is provided with an inclined sliding surface which has an axial inclination of 8-25 DEG and is enclosed by a tapering slide bearing which is of the self-lubricating type and has a cylindrical outer surface and an inner surface with the same axial inclination as the outer surface of the crosspiece trunnion. The outer end surface of the tapering slide bearing is under the pressure of a flexible element. The outer circumferential surface of the bearing is arranged such that it can slide within the bearing through-passage of the associated fork piece.
