The machining process is partic. used to finish the major faces of an automobile brake disc (1), and utilises a radially displacing cutting tool (41,42) to remove material from the revolving disc. A constant cutting speed is effected by varying radial disc velocity whilst variation in the rate of radial tool displacement effects a constant width of cutting. For constant cutting speed, a speed-regulator (14) may control the disc-motor (3), its feed voltage resulting from the division (12) of an adjustable prim voltage and a sec. voltage related to the radial tool position. The sec. voltage may be the algebraic sum of a cutting start voltage and a voltage which represents subsequent radial tool positions.
|
