PURPOSE:To obtain a face light emitting device having an extremely small amount of current consumption, by dividing the driving electrode of an electroluminescence (EL) device and then giving a time-division drive to each of the divided electrodes. CONSTITUTION:When the illumination switch 5a is off, the boosting circuit 15 and the time dividing circuit 16 are nonactive. Thus the EL plate B has no light emission and functions as an ordinary reflecting plate. When the illumination button 5 is operated in a dark place, the switch 5a is turned on to actuate the circuits 15 and 16. As a result, a high voltage boosted by the circuit 15 is distributed via the circuit 16 to be applied to the transparent electrodes b1 and b2 of plate B alternately. Thus the main display part 3 and the secondary display part 4 are illuminated alternately. However, the both display parts can be obtained simultaneously in terms of vision. At the same time, the area for the drive electrode can be cut to half to reduce the amount of current consumption. |
