The parent patent described battery electrodes obtd. by metallising a microporous thin, non-conductive substate of fibrous structure, woven or non-woven. then applying the active material over the whole of the metallised surface and into the metallised pores of the substrate. In this addition, the substrate is a mineral or organic material, (carbon or graphite, cellulose, polyester, polyamide etc.) the porous or fibrous texture of which is such that the ratio between the surface developed and the apparent surface is large, the pore size of the interstices increasing in size with increase in thickness. The essential part of the current collector is formed by electroplating of Ni onto a previous deposit of Cu which may be electroplated or electroless deposited, and which may be reinforced by electroplating. A larger electrode structures can be formed than foreseen in the parent patent due to the increased thickness and strength of the electrodes while maintaining the porosity and proportion of collecting surface of the electrode. Use of a precoating of copper increases the electrical conductivity of the electrode grid.
|
