PURPOSE:To increase the current-collecting performance, the mechanical strength and the active-material holding ability of a collector, and enhance the utilization rate of an active material by employing a given sintered body made of fiber as a collector into which a pasty active material is packed. CONSTITUTION:A highly porous sintered body is prepared by sintering an alkali- proof metal fiber, before nickel plating is performed on the sintered metal fiber. Thus prepared sintered body, which is used as a collector, is packed with a pasty material prepared by mixing cadmium oxide used as an active material with a solvent such as ethylene glycol, thereby a negative plate is made. The metal fiber used for the sintered body has a fiber diameter of 4-100mu. The sintered body has a porosity of over 90%. the former metal fibers are sintered in such a manner that they are arranged in a given direction. The thickness of the former nickel plating is preferred to be not less than 2mu. |
