Water is treated by exposure to a magnetic field to produce a high-strength setting of cement, to reduce the deposit of scale or to increase the vegetable yield when sprinkling water is so treated. The magnetic pole which is exposed to the water has a central bore which is closed by non-magnetic plugs at each end and is surrounded by passages for the water. The conc. of the effective cross-section of the asymmetric active magnetic flux and the redn. of the stray flux increase the effective action of the device.
