The tape recorder has a tape application mechanism, pulling it out from a cassette and looping it round a rotary head. The unwinding and winding reels in the tape cassette lie at the same level, while the rotary head is orthogonally located to the cassette. The application mechanism has a tape pull-out pin and a tape pressing roll used for the tape looping. The application mechanism also contains an erasing head. The magnetic tape is brought out from the cassette by the pull-out pin, or the pressure roll in horizontal direction, while the other of the two elements provides the looping in such manner that the tape is put round the vertical heads with an inclination. The system provides a compact video recorder with easy accessibility for possible repairs. The magnetic tape is driven at constant speed by a drive shaft.
