To enable a subscriber to have frequently used telephone numbers conveniently within reach at all times a card holder (2) contains several cards (13) with register lips (33) which cards are held in position by virtue of pressure pads (30) exerting a lateral card pressure. If a card has to be lifted out for readout, the remaining cards do not follow because they are retained by friction. Similarly, the selected card does not drop back. The card holder (2) is hinged on axle studs (19) which engage in holes (20) of a prolonged side portion (24) of the card holder frame (2). The side portion (24) is elastically movable by a slight outwards pressure because it is partly separated from the card frame by slots (25). The outward pressure is produced when the unit is inserted downwardly. The user may swing the card frame backwards to adjust the viewing angle. This movement is limited by a pin (26) integral with a side-bracket (23) of the axle stud support bracket (18) because of a recessed stopping portion (27) moulded into the extended frame body. The cards are made slightly wider at the bottom to prevent them from being drawn out completely against the pressure pads (30).
