An apparatus for the open-end spinning of a yarn from introduced fibres or for spinning round a yarn core with introduced fibres is described. The apparatus has two suction drums (1) which rotate in the same direction and which form between them a gusset region (5) for the yarn formation or the spinning round of the yarn. In order to stabilise the yarn-forming line, the tangents, lying in a cross-sectional plane, to the circles of rotation of the suction drums (1) are to form an angle ( alpha ) of 8 DEG to 16 DEG with the yarn at the points of contact of these drums. For this purpose, it is proposed that the drum diameters each amount to 100 to 200 times the yarn diameter. <IMAGE>
