Si steel strip is manufd. from a slab contg. (by wt.) 2-4% Si, 0.05-0.1% Mn, 0.02-0.035% S, 0.02-0.06% C, 0.002-0.01% N2, 0.01-0.1% V, and trace impurities. The slab is hot rolled into strip, then cold rolled with final redn. >= 70%, followed by decarburising esp. a continuous decarburising anneal at 900-1050≦̸C. The hot rolled strip is pref. annealed at 900-1100≦̸C, then selectively cooled at 5-16≦̸C/ second to 750-900≦̸C. Alternatively, the hot rolled steel may be cold rolled in two passes with an intermediate anneal similar to that described above.
