A shutter drive mechanism of manual type photocomposing machine comprises a driving motor(23), a shutter blade(30) connected to a roter shaft(27), a tension spring(32) which can return the opened shutter blade by it's returning force, and a fixed pin(33) on the base plate(31). The driving motor includes four fixed electromagnetic poles, a four-magneticpole rotator, it's rotating angle is &thgr;, and a rotor shaft that can rotate by the magnetic force of the fixed poles.
