The gas tight welded connection is for two pipes (10) with relatively large diameter tolerances, whereby the pipes have a small wall thickness, and in the insertion area of the pipes protrusions (12) are provided on at least one of the pipe ends (11) which reduce the distance from the other pipe end. The height of the protrusions corresponds approximately to half the overall tolerance zone. The protrusions are formed as longitudinal grooves (13) or dimples in the pipe wall.
