<p>High performance propulsion unit utilises PO210 as propellant, contained in a solid-vapour state inside a stainless steel reservoir having a fixed front face and a releasable rear face propulsion taking place by isotopic reaction of PO210 when the rear face has been released. The front face of the reservoir consists of a network of cylindrical tubes spirolling from the periphery of the face to its centre each turn being welded to the adjacent one giving the arrangement a high rigidity, and the rear face consists of a disc of the same steel forming a cover and provided with explosive pellets or a detonating string for releasing the cover at the moment when the propulsion unit is to be brought into service. Used for launching space satellites and those reaching the moon. The unit is less expensive than prior projectors of the diamond, P16, H10, H3.5, Ariane and similar types and gives a greater thrust.</p> |
