The section (1) for building a self-supporting roof consists of the channel-shaped assembly of three sheets made of sheet metal or of plastic, a first sheet (2) being used as a base on which the two other sheets (3, 4) forming the sides are welded on their longitudinal edges, and this base being reinforced or having a thickness which is greater than these two other sheets. Several sections (1) can be assembled parallel to each other by means of an assembly section (7) and fixed for example on transverse sections (9, 10) so as to form a self-supporting roof intended to be fixed to a suitable vertical structure. <IMAGE>
