A guanidine of formula I, in which all the substituents have the meanings given in Claim 1, is obtained by reaction of a compound of formula Het-(CH2)m-SM, in which M is hydrogen or an alkali metal, with a compound of formula III. This process especially makes possible the preparation of the compound known under the name of cimetidine. The compounds have therapeutic qualities, especially against stomach ulcers, by blocking histamine H2-receptors. <IMAGE>
