The exhaust gas from a four stroke engine is used to drive a gas turbine (9) coupled to a generator (12). The generator output is connected to electrodes (14,15) in a water tank (13) from which hydrogen and oxygen are collected as the water decomposes by electrolysis. These gases are ducted through separate tubes (16,17) to the inlet manifold (6), and are subsequently burned in the cylinders (3) together with the normal fuel and air mixture. Keeping the gases separate until they are fed into the manifold prevents the formation of an explosive mixture. The addition of the gases to the fuel inlet improves the efficiency of the engine. The proposed system is an alternative to using an electric motor, fed from the generator on the engine drive shaft.
|
