The tubular body, such as a mast or an engineering component, is subjected to bending stress during use, and may have other applications. It is reinforced by longitudinal fibres of high tensile strength. The fibres form individual strands (12), the external surfaces of which adjust themselves and adhere to the internal surface of the tubular body (10). Retainers (14) are rigidly fastened to the internal body wall, for non-displaceable securing of the fibre strands. The retainers may consist of longitudinal wall ribs, and the fibre strands may be permanently connected. Each fibre strand may be hollow and of curved exterior. |
