Gear selector for multi-gear gear box - has stop on changeover finger, to prevent direct change from forward gear to reverse gear

The motor vehicle gear selector has an actuating shaft, which is rotatable and axially displaceable by a gear lever. The shaft carries a change-over finger. Displacement of the shaft into a neutral gear position, causes a preselection in a certain gear train while turning in the opposite direction effects gear changes. The finger (16) acts on a switch element associated with the gears. A stop (24) prevents direct changing from one gear to another, in a preselected gear train. The finger has a stop which, when in gear and changing to neutral, engages a stop pin (26). The shaft (14) carries an axially fixed link disc (32), which maintains the stop pin outside the movement area of the stop, in the remaining gear and neutral position.
