PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst electrode which has a large specific surface area and good corrosion resistance, by using as a catalyst carrier a porous conductive carbon black containing shell-like hollow grains, which is a part of furnace black made from an oil. CONSTITUTION:Furnace black made from an oil such as creosote oil or ethylene bottom oil, includes a porous conductive carbon black containing unusual shell-like hollow grains which have not any spherical forms. The above carbon black is evenly dispersed in water by utilizing ultrasonic wave. Next, an aqueous silver nitrate solution is added to the aqueous carbon black dispersion, before the mixture is dried and heated in a stream of hydrogen gas, thereby the silver nitrate contained in the mixture being reduced into silver. Thus obtained powder is added with an aqueous dispersion of polyfluoroethylene, before this mixture is kneaded and formed into sheetlike film. After that, thus formed film is superposed on a metal net, before these two are subjected to hot press, thus a catalyst electrode being obtained. |
