PURPOSE:To lessen the size of a solid electrolyte and thereby reduce material therefor by a method wherein a part of the solid-electrolyte substance which is not exposed to exhaust gas is formed into an insulation body constituted by an alumina ceramic. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 2 and 3 are formed on the inner- and outer-peripheral surfaces of the cylindrical solid-electrolyte substance 1 with one end closed and the other opened. Into the central through hole 7c of the cylindrical-tube-shaped insulation body 7 which is the alumina ceramic and has an enlarged ring-shaped part 7a at one end side thereof an a convex part 7b at the tip of the part 7a is inserted a pipe 11, the flange 11a of which is mounted in a concave part 1b provided at the opening part of the solid-electrolyte substance 1 through the intermediary of a packing 10 made of copper. By this constitution, the convex part 7b of the insulation body 7 is arranged inside the concave part 1b of the substance 1 and thereby the respective end parts are placed in the relation of opposition. The insulation body 7 is fixed by calking the housing 5, whereby it is made incapable of moving. |
