PURPOSE:To secure hardness and keep an edge at an acute angle against the wear by immersing an edge formed with iron or iron alloys in a molten Al bath and after infiltrating and diffusing Al, removing Al by grinding. CONSTITUTION:The edge 4 formed of iron or iron alloys of a cutting tool 1 is fixed to a ring 2a from three sides with bolts 3 and put into an immersion tank 5. Al6 molten by heating is stored in the immersion tank 5 and Al6 is infiltrated and diffused into the tissue of the edge 4. Then, the edge 4 is taken out of the immersion tank 5, and the greater part of Al adhered on the surface is removed by a mechanical polishing device. The remaining Al is removed by electrolytic polishing. Mechanical and electrolytic polishing may be made after furthering the infiltration and diffusion of Al by applying flame of 700-900 deg.C after infiltrating and diffusing Al into the edge 4. |
