PURPOSE:To improve traveling stability on any road surface, in a pneumatic tire having lugs in the side areas of a tread portion by alternately arranging round shoulders and square shoulders so as to form lugs adjacent to each other. CONSTITUTION:On the circumference of both side areas of a tire tread portion 1, lugs 3 are formed with notchings 2 in the tread width direction. Round shoulders 4 and square shoulders 5 are alternately arranged, thereby forming the lugs 3 adjacent to each other. In this case, the round shoulders 4 are projected outward with respect to the square shoulders 5, thus resulting in a staggered arrangement, and further, the ratio W2/W1 is set to about 0.8-0.98, wherein W1 represents each tread width of the lug 3 having the round shoulder 4 and W2 represents that of lug 3 having the square shoulder 5. With this constitution, stable traveling can be obtained on any road surface. |
