A display device and a method for removing an afterimage in the display device are provided to remove an afterimage, which is naturally generated on a still image, by applying negative power to the still image so as to induce minute trembling of the still image. A display device comprises a power supply unit(140), an image processing unit(110) for processing an inputted image signal, and an LCD panel(150) for displaying the processed image signal. A still image determining unit(121) determines whether the image signal outputted from the image processing unit(110) is a normal image. A controller(100) selectively applies negative power to the outputted image signal according to the determined result.
