A device for forming a selvage in a weaving appts. comprises a rotatable plate member and first (50) and second(54) plate guides associated with the plate member. A first (36) and second(34) thread supply means are mounted on one side of the plate member together with first (44) and second (46) tensioning members. Each of the first and second tensioning members comprise an elongate arm having a guide at one end through which thread passes from the supply means to an associated plate guide member. The other end of the arm is pivoted on the one side of the plate member so that the thread guide and the plate guide are aligned under tensionless conditions.
