PURPOSE:To prepare a preservative having excellent antioxidant and antimicrobial activities to oleaginous foods, etc., by extracting a herb spice with a mixed solvent obtained by mixing a polar solvent and a nonpolar solvent at a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:A raw material selected from herb spices such as sage, rosemarry, etc., residue of the herb spice after extraction of the essential oil, oleoresin of herb spice extracted with a polar solvent or a nonpolar solvent, and its extraction residue, is extracted with an extraction solvent obtained by mixing a polar solvent and a nonpolar solvent at a volume ratio of 2:98-50:50, pref. 5:95-25:75. the objective solid material is prepared by distilling out the solvent from the extract, and if necessary, subjecting the residue to steam distillation. As an alternative method, the solid material can be obtained by (1) treating the extract with an adsorbent, (2) adding water to the extract to pass the polar solvent into the water layer, (3) collecting the nonpolar solvent layer containing oil-soluble effective fraction as solute and hardly oil-soluble effective fraction as precipitate, (4) distilling out the solvent from the collected layer, and if necessary, (5) subjecting the residue to steam distillation. |
